The Maldives government on Tuesday condemned the joint attacks carried out by Israel and the United States on Iran, as well as Iran’s continued strikes on several Gulf countries.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said it “strongly condemns” Iran’s attacks on Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and other states, noting that strikes on airports, residential areas and oil storage facilities constitute a flagrant violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions. The government said it is “deeply concerned” by the escalation.

The Ministry also expressed regret over Iran’s attacks on Gulf states “without any provocation,” and voiced concern over the worsening situation in the Middle East following US‑Israeli attacks on Iran, including the strike on an Iranian girls’ school that killed hundreds.

According to the statement, such actions have exacerbated instability across the Gulf, and the Maldives called on all parties to immediately cease hostilities, warning that the ongoing conflict is undermining prospects for peace.

The government urged the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts to restore peace, stability and security in the region.

Israel and the United States launched coordinated attacks on Iran on 28 February, killing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has since declared war, launching missiles and drones at US bases and Gulf states, with several airports and civilian areas coming under attack.
