The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has advised passengers travelling to the Middle East to verify their flight information in advance, as unrest in the region continues to disrupt air traffic.

In a statement on Saturday, MACL said flight schedules may change due to the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, and urged passengers to check the latest updates before heading to Velana International Airport (VIA).

The company highlighted several steps travellers should take, including checking flight times through official airline websites and mobile apps. Passengers who booked through tour operators or travel agents have been advised to follow their guidance.

MACL said planning ahead and confirming any delays or cancellations before arriving at the airport will help avoid inconvenience.

A large number of tourists remain at VIA after several Middle Eastern airspaces were temporarily closed. The Middle East accounts for a significant share of tourist arrivals to Maldives, with many flights operating through major hubs such as Dubai and Doha.

Air traffic across the region was disrupted on Saturday following heightened tensions after Israel’s heavy strikes on Iran. Several international airlines have cancelled flights or rerouted aircraft due to temporary airspace closures in Iran, Israel and neighbouring countries. Some flights to and from Maldives have also experienced delays or changes.

MACL encouraged passengers to use the Flight Information Service (FIS) portal at fis.macl.aero, which provides real‑time updates on departure times, check‑in counters and flight status.
