Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revised its overtime policy for Ramadan following criticism from staff over tightened conditions announced earlier this month.
The initial circular stated that overtime would only be paid if an employee worked more than 48 hours outside official duty hours, with each department determining individual duty schedules. The policy drew complaints from staff who said the threshold was too high for the reduced‑hours Ramadan period.
A MACL employee told Sun that the company issued a new circular on Monday easing the requirement. Under the updated policy, overtime will now be paid for work exceeding five hours beyond scheduled duty.
The circular also states that employees in non‑shift positions will be granted leave during the last 10 days of Ramadan.
Government offices are operating from 9 am to 1 pm throughout Ramadan, and will remain open during the first seven days of Shawwal.
