Ondhigo ordered to settle USD 13,000 in unpaid credit card charges as company skips court hearing

Ondhigo Pvt Ltd chairman, Mohamed Junaid.

Ondhigo Pvt Ltd and its chairman, Mohamed Junaid, have been ordered to pay more than USD 13,000 owed on a corporate credit card issued by the Bank of Maldives (BML).

BML filed the civil suit last December after the company failed to settle outstanding charges on a corporate Visa card issued to Ondhigo. The Civil Court delivered its judgment on Sunday, instructing the company to repay the amount within six months. The ruling was issued in absentia as neither Ondhigo nor Junaid attended the hearing.

This is the second recent judgment against the company. In November, the Civil Court ordered Ondhigo to pay MVR 8.5 million to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) for unpaid GST, plastic bag fees and associated penalties.

According to that ruling, the company had failed to pay MVR 7.3 million in GST between May 2020 and February 2024, resulting in an additional MVR 1.8 million in fines and MVR 474 in plastic bag fees. That verdict was also issued in the company’s absence.
