CP Naveen: Will seek harshest punishment for individuals exploiting children for crimes

Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, on Wednesday, affirmed that the Police are pushing for the harshest punishment allowed under the law for individuals who exploit children in criminal activities.

Two men were arrested from Male’ on Sunday for exploiting a 16-year-old boy to deliver drugs.  

Referring to the arrests, Naveen, via a post on X, said safeguarding children’s rights and creating a safe society for them is one of the state’s most important responsibilities.

“Maldives Police Service will show no leniency in investigating those who exploit children, leveraging them to commit crimes and accordingly, will seek the harshest penalties allowed under the law for such individuals,” he said.

Naveen underscored that safeguarding children requires the support of the entire society, described it as a responsibility shared by everyone.

He urged anyone with information about individuals who exploit children in criminal activities to immediately report it to the Police’s Family and Child Protection Department at 9790163 or the National Emergency Hotline at 911.

The Police, on Sunday, arrested two men suspected of exploiting a 16-year-old boy to deliver drugs during a joint operation by Family and Child Protection, Drug Enforcement, and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence.

They were identified by police as:

  • Ahmed Naeem, 39, V. Satellite, K. Male’
  • Hassan Nuaz, 28, M. Naazlee Manzil, K. Male’

 

Both of them have been remanded in custody for 15 days.
