CP urges to strengthen police presence in busiest areas of Male’

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed has called on police officers to strengthen their presence in the busiest areas of Malé, underscoring the importance of easing the challenges faced by the public.

The Commissioner made the remarks during a ceremony held on Saturday at Iskandharu Koshi to launch the operational plan for policing activities across Malé and the Sinamalé Bridge highway.

The "Traffic Enhancement Plan," unveiled by the Commissioner during a meeting with personnel from the Traffic Police and Road Management Department, sets out the operational framework for officers deployed throughout Malé and the bridge highway.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikuree, along with senior officials from the Traffic and Road Management Department.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner emphasized the need to reinforce ongoing initiatives aimed at improving road safety and identifying sustainable measures to address traffic congestion. He also noted that the number of officers assigned to traffic operations has been increased.

The Commissioner urged officers to prioritize maintaining a visible presence in the city's busiest areas to reduce travel disruptions for the public, describing it as a key measure in ensuring order and discipline on the roads.

In accordance with the Commissioner's directives, the Traffic and Road Management Department stated that police presence will be expanded beyond the areas currently under surveillance to cover additional locations across Malé.

The Maldives Police Service also announced that efforts are underway to increase the number of personnel assigned to the sector, with the aim of expanding and strengthening traffic management operations in the future.

Malé continues to experience severe vehicle congestion, with road traffic accidents occurring frequently. These incidents have resulted in serious injuries and, in some cases, fatalities.

According to police statistics, traffic accidents are the second most frequently reported incidents so far this year. Of the 6,782 cases reported to the police, 1,702 were related to road traffic accidents.
