A man has been arrested for allegedly stopping a WAMCO vehicle and assaulting one of its employees, the same individual who was previously arrested in connection with a two‑kilogram drug case.
Police identified the suspect as Ahmed Shamoon, 28, from L. Gan. He was arrested over the incident and has been remanded in custody for five days. He is being charged with assault.
Records show that Shamoon had earlier been charged in a major drug case in which the Drug Enforcement Department searched four houses, a motorcycle and a boat in the North Harbor area, recovering more than two kilograms of drugs. He was among those arrested in that operation.
The Prosecutor General’s Office had charged him with use, possession, and concealment of property and money obtained through crime.
However, the Criminal Court ruled that the charges were not proven. The verdict was delivered by Judge Hussain Faiz Rashad, who was recently dismissed over a behavioural misconduct case.
The prosecution later appealed the ruling to the High Court, where the case remains undecided. Several others were also charged alongside Shamoon in the same drug case.
