Remand of two youths arrested with three kilos of drugs extended by 30 days

The remand of two youths arrested with over three kilos of drugs has been extended by 30 days.

Shaain Ali, 27, Falak, L. Naifaru and Aishath Maasha Ahmed, 20, Ihraamge, AA. Feridhoo were arrested during the search of a home in Male’ City Henveiru district under a court order as part of a counter-narcotics operation conducted by Maldives Police Service’s Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence.

The suspects were initially remanded in custody for five days.

They were presented before the Criminal Court on Saturday following the expiration of this period, which ordered a 30-day extension of their remand.

According to the remand order, the apartment from which drugs were seized was rented under Maasha’s name. It further states the drugs were kept in plain sight, alongside drug paraphernalia, specifically drug-packaging equipment.

The remand order also states Shaain has a prior criminal record.

Youths are commonly arrested in drug-related cases nowadays with youths actively involved in running major drug networks, as per the Police.
