Statistics publicized by Maldives Police Service show that there was a 16 percent reduction in sexual offenses investigated by the authority in 2025 compared to the year before that.
According to the statistics, the Police investigated 270 cases related to sexual offenses in 2025, marking a reduction of 51 cases from 321 cases related to sexual offenses investigated in 2024.
Thus, this marks a 16 percent reduction in sexual offenses reported and investigated by the Police in the span of a year.
There was a general reduction in cases investigated by the Police in 2025 compared to 2024. In this regard, 12,642 cases were investigated by the Police in 2025, down from 12,083 in 2024. This marks a four percent reduction.
Similar to previous years, the highest number of cases investigated by the Police in 2025 pertained to theft, at 3,478 cases. However, this is still a reduction compared to 3,761 theft-related cases investigated by the Police in 2024.
Nevertheless, there was an increase in traffic accidents investigated by the Police in 2025 compared to 2024. In this regard, the Police investigated 3,073 cases related to traffic accidents in 2025, up from 2,844 in 2024.
Drug-related crimes investigated by the Police also increased in 2025, standing at 2,070 cases, up from 1,671 cases in 2024.
Notably, the Police are currently engaged in various operations to reduce crimes including operations to combat narcotics and undocumented migrants.
