The Housing Ministry announced on Monday evening that applications for land and flats under the government’s housing programmes will open on January 15.
The regulations governing the allocation of land and flats under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s “Housing for All” policy were published in the gazette late Tuesday.
According to the ministry, the application window will remain open from January 15 to April 14, and all submissions must be made through the Hiyaavehi Portal.
Under the scheme, the government plans to allocate 7,900 flats and 15,000 land plots spanning 1,250 acres. Two categories of land will be designated for residents of Male' City, while special priority categories will receive land in the Greater Male' area and Rasmale’. Residents of other islands who currently live in Male' will only be eligible for land in Rasmale’.
The previous administration under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had also announced large-scale land and flat allocations, and work on those commitments is still ongoing.
President Muizzu has pledged to ensure housing for every Maldivian above the age of 18. His policy introduces several changes from the previous government’s approach, including allowing the Housing Ministry to determine the number of rooms an applicant qualifies for and revising the flat allocation criteria.
