Maldives Police Service has named the pump station in Boduthakurufaanu Magu as an accident-prone area and in this regard, has urged the public to exercise extra caution while passing the area.
The Police, via a post on Facebook, said the intersection between Koimalaa Hingun and Boduthakurufaanu has been identified as an accident-prone area. The authority has installed a red billboard at the pump station at the intersection in Boduthakurufaanu Magu, warning that the area is prone to accidents.
As such, the Police have urged the public to exercise extra caution when passing the area.
In this regard, the Police have urged drivers reduce speed, stay fully alert, follow road rules and keep a safe distance from other vehicles when passing the area.
The Police added that one’s own attentiveness could save lives, their own and others.
Traffic accidents continue to be a major concern in the Maldives, with many resulting in fatalities. Police statistics show that 2,674 accidents have been reported so far this year.
The rise in accidents prompted President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to instruct the relevant authorities to take stricter measures to reduce accidents resulting from reckless driving.
It also prompted the Police to introduce a change to its patrol policy, which will see an increased street presence in the Maldivian capital so that people come across an officer every five minutes.
