Fatal fall reported in Maafannu house stairwell

A man has died after falling into the stairwell of a house in Male' City, police confirmed on Tuesday.

According to police, the incident occurred at 18:29 hours when the man fell from the sixth-floor ventilation shaft of a house in Maafannu, to the stairwell of the same building. He was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The victim has been identified as Rathan, 47, a Bangladeshi national.

Police said further details will be shared as the investigation progresses.

Incidents involving falls from upper floors of buildings have occurred in Male' in the past, prompting calls for improved safety measures in residential structures.
