A man with a record for over 100 arrests has been rearrested from Male’ for allegedly stealing a laptop.
Safwan Ali, 37, Lucky House, Th. Thimarafushi, was arrested by police on Thursday on allegations of theft and unauthorized use of private property.
On Friday, the Criminal Court remanded him in custody of the police for 10 days.
Court filings show the police recovered the stolen laptop from Safwan and his alleged cohort.
The police also submitted snapshots from CCTV footage, and the incident report as evidence against him.
The court also cited discrepancies between what he allegedly said at the scene of the crime and what he later said at his remand hearing in ordering his remand.
Court records also show Safwan was detained more than 100 times in various cases involving thefts and robberies.
This includes earlier this year when he and his alleged cohort was arrested for robbing an expatriate worker of MVR 33,500.
And in a separate case, he was arrested for allegedly stealing a trimmer and five cases of pens.
His latest remand period expires on October 27.
