Six detained in gang attacks in Male’

Six people have been detained by police in connection to two gang attacks in the Maldivian capital.

In a statement on Sunday morning, the police said that all six suspects were arrested under court orders on Friday.

The first incident took place at around 08:30 pm on October 4, when a group of individuals on motorcycles used dangerous weapons to attack an individual who was sitting on a motorcycle parked outside Ma. Reendhoomaage.

The police did not specify the type of weapons used.

Four suspects were arrested in connection to the case; men aged 19, 25, 26 and 29.

On Saturday, the Criminal Court ordered for all four to be jailed pending the outcome of their trial.

The second incident took place at around 06:10 pm on October 7, when two people on a motorcycle attacked an individual outside the post office in the Boduthakurufaanu Magu of Male’.

The two suspects arrested in the case are men aged 22 and 24.

On Saturday, the Criminal Court remanded both suspects into the custody of the police for 15 days.

According to the police, the individuals who sustained injuries in the incidents have since been discharged from the hospital after treatment.

The cases are under further investigation by the police.
