MTCC awarded MVR 280mn contract to double Dhangethi’s size

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded a land reclamation contract worth nearly MVR 280 million that will see the island of ADh. Dhangethi double in size.

The contract was signed on Monday by Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib and MTCC’s CEO Ahmed Saudee, on the sidelines of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island.

According to MTCC, the land reclamation and shore protection project is worth MVR 279.92 million, and involves reclaiming 27.32 hectors of land, which is more than the current 24.2 hectors the island currently has.

The project also entails:

  • Installation of a 576-meter temporary geobag revetment
  • Installation of a 718-meter revetment
  • Installation of a 500-meter low crest seawall
  • Installation of a 240-meter groyne

MTCC is required to complete the project within 570 days.
