New Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi envoys present credentials; discuss enhanced collaboration

New ambassadors from two neighboring countries – Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – have presented their credentials Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The new ambassadors – Sri Lankan High Commissioner Mohamed Rizvi Hassen and Bangladeshi High Commissioner Dr MD Nazmul Islam - presented their credentials in ceremonies held at the President’s Office on Sunday afternoon.

They were escorted from the Republic Square to the President’s Office in a traditional ‘Haiykolhu’ cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

The letters of credence were accepted by President Muizzu, who welcomed them on their new appointment, and engaged in discussions regarding furthering bilateral relations.

According to the President’s Office, the meeting between President Muizzu and High Commissioner Hassen focused on areas of mutual interest, including trade, economy, and climate change.

They highlighted on the importance of strengthening people-to-people connections and discussed ways to broaden cooperation, with the aim of further enhancing the close bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.

Following the presentation of credentials, President Muizzu and High Commissioner Islam reflected on the longstanding bonds of friendship between the Maldives and Bangladesh.

They emphasized the deep-rooted people-to-people connections and the history of mutual support and cooperation shared by the two countries.

According to the President’s Office, discussions also centered on enhancing collaboration in key areas such as agriculture, economic development, higher education, and trade and investment.

The meeting concluded with both parties affirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations for mutual benefit.
