Police are the guardians of society and should work to earn the trust of the people, Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen said on Saturday evening.
Addressing the graduates of the 40th Basic Training Course for New Police Recruits, Naveen stated that graduation marks not the end of a journey, but the beginning of the real journey for police officers. He emphasized that the police uniform represents the significant weight of responsibility, duty, and commitment that officers carry as they are prepared to serve throughout the country.
The Commissioner advised the newly trained policemen to always be sincere to their police uniforms. He urged officers to be impartial in their work and to uphold human rights.
The CP also stated that police should consistently strive to gain the closeness and trust of the public, communicate with patience, and recognize the importance of fairness. This approach, he added, is one of the main pillars aimed at serving the community. Naveen further noted that punctuality and adherence to the law reflect the character of the police force.
Reminding the graduates of the challenges they will face, including crime, social issues, and emergency situations, Naveen expressed confidence that the police will uphold the dignity of their badges and honors.
Naveen commended the hard work of the graduates at the ceremony and offered his congratulations.
Recently, there has been an increase in complaints regarding a lack of trust in police investigations and information. Additionally, as the police are a large institution, there have been allegations of various governments attempting to influence the police force.
A total of 138 young men and women enrolled in the 40th Basic Training Course for New Police Recruits, with 116 participants successfully completing the course. Sergeant Mohamed Arushad was recognized as the best student of the training course.
