Man who stole five laptops from HDC sentenced to nine months in prison

The man who stole five laptops from Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and sold them has been sentenced for nine months in prison.

The theft took place on December 21, 2024.

Hassan Shakeeb, Miriyaasge, Th. Gaadhiffushi, broke into HDC’s project management office in Hulhumale’ Phase II and stole five laptops.

Shakeeb had sold the laptops for MVR 1,700; something which he admitted at court.

With the admission of guilt, the case was fast-tracked at court. Shakeeb was granted leniency due to admission of guilt. In this regard, he was sentenced to nine months and 18 days in prison, in contrast to one year, seven months and six days which is the actual punishment for the crime.

Criminal Court delivered the ruling in the case on Wednesday. The case was presided over by Judge Ali Nadheem.

The case was submitted to the court in July.
