The Bank of Maldives (BML) opened a new branch in AA. Ukulhas, a move the national bank said further strengthens its commitment to enhancing financial inclusion through accessible banking services across the Maldives.
The new branch in Ukulhas, a popular local tourism destination, comes with a USD ATM.
The new branch and the USD ATM service were launched in a ceremony on Thursday morning attended by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, government ministers, as well as BML’s chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb, CEO and managing director Mohamed Shareef, board directors, and other senior officials.
Known for its thriving guest house industry, Ukulhas is a key economic hub in AA. Atoll.
According to BML, its new branch in Ukulhas will cater to both individuals and businesses, including the growing tourism-related businesses, through its “Islamic Finance First” banking services.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Shareef said the BML is delighted to bring its services to Ukulhas, describing the island as a vibrant community and a vital center of guest house tourism in the Maldives.
“With this new branch and new USD ATM service, residents and entrepreneurs on Ukulhas as well as nearby islands will have convenient access to tailored financial solutions that will support local development and contribute to economic growth,” he said.
The launch of USD ATM services in Ukulhas comes a day after the bank opened a USD ATM center in neighboring Thoddoo, another AA. Atoll island known for its guesthouse industry as well as farming industry.
The BML has an extensive network comprising 42 branches across all 20 atolls, 144 self-service banking centers, 202 ATMs, comprehensive agent banking services, and advanced digital banking solutions.
The bank launched an initiative to establish ATMs in all residential islands of the Maldives last year – a project that it expects to wrap up by November.
