Construction of 50 housing units begins in Ukulhas with a 600-day completion target

Construction of 50 housing units in Ukulhas officially began on Wednesday. The project was launched by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to the island, with Infrastructure Minister Dr Abdullah Muthalib inaugurating the work.

The project is being carried out by Altech Maldives, and will consist of three-bedroom apartment-style housing units. According to the Infrastructure Ministry, the work is scheduled to be completed within 600 days, or roughly two years.

The ministry has not disclosed the cost of the project.

Ukulhas, with a population of around 1,200, is developing new housing in its reclaimed area. The island dredged 13 hectares in 2023 as part of its expansion plan.

During his visit to Ukulhas in August last year, President Muizzu pledged to build housing units on the island and allocate 250 plots from the reclaimed land.
