Statistics published by the Higher Education Ministry show that spending on scholarships so far this year is currently at MVR 101.8 million.

According to statistics published by the Higher Education Ministry on Sunday show that a total of MVR 350.9 million has been spent on scholarships from last year up to the present. This accounts for the expenses of 268 students.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has spent MVR 101.8 million on scholarships so far this year.

There are 607 students currently studying in 20 countries, including the Maldives, under various scholarship schemes.

48 students studying under various scholarship schemes have graduated this year.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has issued MVR 982 million in student loans for 1,159 students from last year up to the present.

This includes MVR 282.4 million issued in student loans for 274 students from January this year, to date.

Currently, there are 1,676 students studying across 40 countries, including the Maldives, on student loans.

Notably, students have repeatedly raised concerns over delays by the Higher Education Ministry in disbursing funds under both scholarship and loan schemes.

Speaking at the Parliament on April 30th, Higher Education Minister Dr. Ali Haidar acknowledged delays in disbursing funds to students; something which he attributed to failure by students to provide completed information.
