Students break for holidays after end of first term

Students across the Maldives received their report cards on Thursday, officially marking the conclusion of the first term of the ongoing academic year and the start of the term break.

The break will span over two weeks. Together with the upcoming Independence Day holidays, students will receive a total of 16 days of vacation.

According to the Education Minister, schools are scheduled to reopen for the second term on August 2.

More than 84,000 students, from preschool through Grade 12, are currently enrolled in schools across the Maldives and are supported by a teaching workforce of over 9,000 educators.

According to the Education Ministry’s academic calendar, the second term will begin on August 2, while the 2026 academic year is set to conclude on December 18. The annual year-end vacation will run from December 18 to January 12, 2027.

The 2027 academic year is scheduled to commence on January 17. These dates have been established in line with the recent revisions to the academic calendar.
