A man from L. Maavah died on Monday morning, after he was stabbed in the neck in an altercation that took place in the island.
The deceased has been identified by the police as Moosa Ibrahim, 29, Nalahiya, L. Maavah.
According to a credible source from Maavah, he was stabbed in an altercation with another individual that took place outside a volleyball court at around 10:00 am.
An eye witness told Sun that the attacker had come in from behind and stabbed Moosa Ibrahim in the neck.
He was taken to the Maavah Health Council at around 10:22 am. Doctors at the facility confirmed he was already deceased when taken there.
A local source told Sun that the suspect in the case is a man from another island, who was visiting Maavah.
He was taken into police custody, according to the source.
In a later update, the police confirmed the arrest, identifying the suspect as Mohamed Ibrahim, 29, Asaree Manzil, HDh. Nolhivaranfaru.
The local source who spoke to Sun said that both the suspect and the victim in the case have a record for prior arrests in drug-related cases.
The case is under investigation by the police.
