A total of 21 people have been provided temporary housing following the fire at a government housing complex located in Hulhumale’ Phase I, which resulted in significant damage.

The fire broke out in the morning from a bedroom in a second-floor apartment in Flat 94, located near a children’s park in the vicinity of the Azeeza Mosque.

The apartment was inhabited by 11 migrants who were not present at the scene when the fire broke out.

No one was injured in the incident.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided temporary shelter to 21 individuals from four apartments affected by the fire, due to issues such as smoke exposure, compromised water quality, and fire-related damage.

The authority provided no further details.

The apartment where the fire broke out has been severely damaged in the fire.

The housing complex in question, developed with assistance from the Chinese government, was built to provide housing for Maldivians in need of it under a social housing project. Though a violation of the lease agreement, many recipients sublet their flats.
