Nafiz said he did not even realize Abdul Rahman was back in Maalhos until he learnt of his brutal murder.

Abdul Rahman and his wife Nazima Ibrahim, a council assistant at the Maalhos Council, had been living in home alone at the time of the murder. The couple have three children, two of whom reside in other islands. Meanwhile, the son who lives with them in Maalhos, an ambulance driver for the Maalhos Health Center, had been away in Male’.

It had been Abdul Rahman’s wife who called the ambulance.

The couple’s son said that his mother had been sleeping in a separate room, and woke up to the sound of footsteps, as the assailant fled the house. She rushed to her husband’s room to find him bleeding from his wounds.

Locals report that Abdul Raheem and his family lived a simple life, and cannot think of anyone who had a grudge against him or any possible motivation for his murder.
