Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) states the owner of the two boats that burned down in a fire while docked at Th. Vilufushi on Tuesday, is currently being treated at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
A Vilufushi Council member told Sun on Tuesday that the fire broke out on two boats used to transport fuel. Both the boat owner and a migrant worker employed by him sustained injuries and were initially treated at the Vilufushi Health Centre.
Speaking with Sun on Wednesday, Vilufushi Council President Hussain Abdul Salam Adam said the boat owner was transferred to Malé for further medical treatment on the same day. He noted that the migrant worker did not suffer serious injuries.
An official from IGMH confirmed to Sun that the boat owner was being treated on ventilator support at ICU.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said they received a report of a fire on a fuel boat docked in the Vilufushi lagoon at around 9:41am on Tuesday morning.
The fire was brought under control with the help of Vilufushi residents, and both boats were removed from the Vilufushi harbor.
