Gas cylinder blast: One burn victim still in critical condition; on ventilator support

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) states two people injured in a serious fire triggered by a gas cylinder explosion at a residence in Malé remain hospitalized, with one of the victims in critical condition and on ventilator support.

An IGMH media official told Sun that the two victims continue to receive treatment at the hospital. One has been moved to a general ward, while the other remains in critical condition and is being treated on ventilator support. The hospital has not yet provided specific information on the nature or severity of their injuries.

"Two people are currently receiving treatment; one is in the ward, while the other is in serious condition and is being treated on ventilator," the official said.

The Police said the explosion at G. Dhoogas on Sunday early morning, took place around 7:25pm.

The explosion took place in a five-bedroom apartment located within the two-story building. Fifteen expatriates residing in the apartment were safely evacuated. Four people were injured in the explosion, including two Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian nationals.

The resulting fire was brought under control by personnel from the MNDF Fire and Rescue Service.

The incident is under further investigation by the Police.
