The Indian High Commission in Maldives partnered with the Tree Top Hospital to hold a blood donation camp on Saturday, on occasion of World Blood Donor Day.
The blood donation camp was inaugurated by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim, and was attended by Indian High Commissioner G. Balasubramanian and other high commission staff, as well as Tree Top Hospital’s CEO Dr. Srivatsan Sridhar G and other hospital staff.
The high commission’s staff, including Balasubramanian himself, as well as members of the Indian community donated blood during the event, which was aimed at encouraging a culture of voluntary blood donation.
It marks the second time this year that the Indian High Commission has participated in blood donation to support Maldivians.
It also echoed similar initiatives by Indian missions across the world to mark World Blood Donor Day.
World Blood Donors Day is marked on June 14. The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.
The theme for this year’s World Blood Donor Day was “Give blood, give hope: together we save lives”.
