Rough seas with swells expected in next five days: MET

The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast rough seas and swells for northern and central parts of the Maldives in the next five days.

Maldives is currently experiencing the southwest monsoon (wet season), with the country expecting rainfall and rough seas. While southern atolls began experiencing the wet season on May 7th, central parts started experiencing the season from May 12th onwards. Wet season began on last Thursday for northern parts.

MET forecast strong winds and rough seas for northern and central parts in the next five days, while the southwest monsoon usually lasts until November every year. These atolls are expected to experience rough seas, swells accompanied by thunderstorms.

The authority has asked seafarers to be cautious because of the adverse weather conditions. MET also issued yellow alerts to parts of the Maldives last week due to bad weather.
