The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and police raided the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare on Sunday, for an investigation that dates back to 2018.

A ministry spokesperson told Sun that investigators from the ACC and police have been operating at the ministry headquarters, located at the Velana Building in Male’, since the afternoon.

The spokesperson said the operation is linked to an investigation launched in 2018.

She declined to say more.

The police confirmed the search operation, adding that it was linked to an investigation initiated by the ACC. The police said they were providing support for the investigation.

The ACC has yet to make an official statement regarding the investigation.

The Agriculture Ministry previously had a wider mandate, encompassing fisheries-related affairs. But the ministry was split into two in 2023, after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu began his presidential term.
