The government has signed an agreement towards handing over 21 ferry stops, developed under the Maldives Integrated National Public Ferry Network project, to local council authorities.
Under this agreement, the Local Governmant Ministry will be handing over completed and functioning ferry stops in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani atolls - the north.
The agreement was signed between the the Local Government Ministry, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
Dr. Fathimath Muna, the Permanent Secretary of Local Government Ministry signed on behalf of the ministry, while Mariyam Shahana signed on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and MTCC's General Manager Ali Fathih signed on behalf of the state-owned enterprise.
The handover letter for the ferry stops has already exchanged hands from the Minister of Transport to Local Government Minister Adam Shareef.
"One of the key efforts of this government is to expedite the RTL rollout plan, and expand the services to the Maldives before 2025 ends," Ameen said.
Ameen also confirmed RTL services will commence, as per the announcement of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, across Raa and Baa atolls in June.
The Local Government Minister affirmed council authorities will fulfill its responsibilities in managing these ferry stops without any hindrances.
