Dozens of Bangladeshi expatriates donated blood on Friday, in a blood donation camp organized by the Bangladesh High Commission in Maldives.
The event took place at the National Thalassemia Center in Male’ City.
According to the High Commission, Bangladeshi expatriates voluntarily participated in the humanitarian event, donating total 50 bags of blood.
Acting High Commissioner Md. Sohel Parvez visited the camp and also donated his blood.
He also handed over certificates of appreciation to the donors.
At the event, Parvez stressed the importance of donating blood.
He added that such events will enhance the people to people contact between Maldives and Bangladesh, and thanked the Maldives Blood Services for collaborating with the Bangladesh High Commission.
Maldives is home to the largest population of thalassemia patients in the South East Asia region, with over 600 registered thalassemia patients.
According to the Bangladesh High Commission, the blood camp was held as part of the Festival of Youth 2025, a month-long festival taking place in Bangladesh.
