The Government of Bangladesh has once again donated premium seasonal mangoes to the Maldives as a gesture of friendship and goodwill.
The mangoes were handed over at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Maldives, Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, presented the gift on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh, while Deputy Chief of Protocol Badoora Saeed received it on behalf of the Government of Maldives.
The donation was made in honour of the official visit of Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, who is in Maldives to participate in the 61st Independence Day celebrations.
The Bangladesh Embassy said the presentation of its premium mangoes symbolizes the close friendship, mutual respect and longstanding ties between the two countries. It noted that Maldives and Bangladesh enjoy strong relations built on trust, cooperation and shared interests across multiple sectors.
These include diplomacy, trade, education, healthcare, climate action, labour mobility, defence cooperation, tourism and cultural exchanges.
The Embassy said Bangladesh attaches great importance to its relationship with Maldives and remains committed to working closely with the Maldivian government to further strengthen cooperation for the prosperity of both nations.
Bangladesh has maintained a tradition of gifting mangoes to Maldives during the mango season, a practice continued throughout the tenure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
