The Government Oversight Committee on Sunday has given approval for the new ministerial appointments in the recent cabinet reshuffle by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in December last year.
The four ministers are:
The request for the ministers’ approval was submitted during last Thursday’s out-of-session parliamentary sitting. While the committee previously approved the same four for their ministerial positions, all of the committee members had unanimously voted for their approval during Sunday’s meeting as well.
The shuffle to the cabinet included the merger of the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure with the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, and appointing Dr. Muththalib as the minister of the merged, singular ministry; and changing the previous Minister of Housing Dr. Ali Haidar as the new Minister of Higher Education while the previous Higher Education Minister, Dr. Mariyam Mariya was appointed as the new Minister of Agriculture.
Another cabinet reshuffle prior to December’s changes saw President Dr. Muizzu appointing Moosa Zameer as the new Minister of Finance. Zameer was the first Minister of Foreign Affairs of the current regime, but was appointed to lead the Finance Ministry after its first minister, Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq resigned.
The previous Minister of Health, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel was appointed as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, while former Health Minister and a President’s Office Staff, Abdulla Nazim was appointed as the new Minister of Health.
