The Maldives government has annulled immunity agreements made with all the suspects involved in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation’s (MMPRC) corruption, including former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.

The Prosecutor General’s Office on Sunday announced it has annulled the immunity agreements entered with four suspects, including Adeeb. They are:

  • Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor, H. Saamaraa
  • Ahmed Ishfah Ali, M. Land of Garden
  • Mohamed Allam Latheef, M. Cessna
  • Mohamed Hussain, G. Oivaali

The government terminated the immunity agreement with former MMPRC Managing Director Abdulla Ziyath earlier in 2022.

The immunities were extended to acquire cooperation from the suspects in recovering the lost monies of the state, and with the investigation.

However, owing to lack of cooperation from the alleged suspects in the investigation and recovering the lost funds, PG Office said it has decided to rescind the immunities. The decision was made by the incumbent Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef, the PG Office added.

With the immunities annulled, PG Office has demanded the Maldives Police Service and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to resume the halted investigations of the alleged suspects expeditiously.
