Construction without sheet piling causes neighboring building to sink

A building in Male’ City has been gradually sinking after the neighboring building was constructed without sheet piling.

Male’ City Council said the impacted residence is Maafannu Lucky Heaven, which reported of gradual subsidence and structural cracking. Residents of the impacted building are currently being evacuated to temporary shelters, the council added.

City Council added that the structural integrity of Lucky Heaven was compromised after its neighboring house, Maafannu Navigator, was constructed without sheet piling.

Four families lived in four rooms of the impacted building. Temporary shelters have been provided to six adults and three children below the age of 18 living in the building.

Two of the building’s apartments are taken on rent by expatriates, City Council added.
