11 vessels collectively fined MVR 5,500 for unauthorized use of Vilimale’ lagoon

At least 11 vessels were collectively fined MVR 5,500 by the Male’ City Council on Tuesday and the day before over unauthorized use of the Vilimale’ lagoon.

The council states that the vessels were anchored at the lagoon in violation of regulations and in a manner that posed difficulties for vessels with permits to use the area.

The council said it began taking action against such vessels in order to provide a permanent solution to the difficulties facing other parties that use the lagoon.

The management of the Vilimale’ lagoon falls under the mandate of the Male’ City Council, which says that it has launched a special program to address unauthorized use of the lagoon.

The council urged everyone to follow rules and regulations regarding the use of the Vilimale’ lagoon, warning that they will continue to take action against vessels that fail to comply.

The Male’ City Council is empowered to impose fines of MVR 500 for irregular use of the Vilimale’ lagoon. The council states that vessels irregularly anchored at both the Vilimale’ and Male’ lagoons will be fined only after vessel owners are given prior notice to remove it.
