Public urged to submit photos, videos of individuals littering into Male’ harbor

Malé City Council has called on the public to submit photos and videos of individuals littering or disposing of waste into the Malé harbor.

The Council urged residents to report incidents of illegal waste dumping by providing relevant information through its hotline at 9341144. The initiative is aimed at preserving the cleanliness of the capital and supporting enforcement efforts against individuals who dispose of waste irresponsibly.

The Malé City Council stated that it continues to undertake regular efforts to maintain the cleanliness of the harbor, with sanitation and cleaning operations conducted daily.

The Council stressed that public cooperation is essential to maintaining a clean and aesthetically pleasing environment in Malé City. It reiterated its appeal for residents to refrain from littering on the streets and in the harbor, while encouraging them to assist authorities by reporting such violations.

Despite the Maldives’ international reputation for its pristine marine environment, the disposal of waste into the sea and harbors remains a persistent problem. The practice contributes to considerable environmental degradation, with the Council noting that although cleaning operations are conducted regularly, a lasting solution will remain difficult to achieve as long as irresponsible waste disposal continues.
