Council paints double yellow lines on street corners to ease congestion in Male' City

Male' City Council has begun marking street corners across the capital as no-parking zones, in an effort to reduce traffic congestion caused by vehicles parked at junctions.

The project commenced on Wednesday with the Council painting no-parking lines on the corners of M. Fulooniyaa Magu, one of the areas identified as a frequent bottleneck due to vehicles obstructing turning space.

Under the new measure, the Council is drawing double yellow lines on street corners to indicate that parking is strictly prohibited in those areas.

Mayor Adam Azim said parking on street corners has become a major contributor to traffic congestion in Male's narrow streets, creating dangerous blind spots and restricting vehicle movement. He said parking will not be allowed in any corner marked with the new lines.

The Council said the initiative aims to make Male's streets safer for both pedestrians and motorists. It plans to extend the marking of no-parking corners to additional neighbourhoods in the coming weeks.
