Hussain Amr, the first MD of State Trading Company (STO) during the last administration, has left The Democrats to rejoin Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
The Democrats' political activities has remained silent for a while. Following the party’s failure to secure any seats in the parliamentary elections, the party has not held any major political activity.
Subsequently, Amr, who played a crucial role in forming the party, had also faded from the political scene.
Amr’s decision to leave Democrats and rejoin MDP was announced by former Hulhumale’ MP Ali Niyaz, a prominent member of MDP.
Niyaz welcomed Amr via a post on X, adding the most opportunity for political reformative work is always within MDP.
Sun was unsuccessful in its efforts to contact Amr for a comment regarding the case.
The Democrats was formed by a breakaway faction from MDP that supports former president Mohamed Nasheed, following ideological differences. The members who joined Democrats after leaving MDP had strongly criticized the MDP administration and the party, citing it had failed.
