Pres. Muizzu affirms govt’s commitment to address needs of visually impaired community

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, citing it is the fundamental responsibility of every nation to ensure that appropriate services and resources are designed and made accessible for people with visual impairments, has affirmed the government’s commitment to continue implementing policies that address the needs of this community.

He made the remark in a message on Saturday on the occasion of World Braille Day.

In his message, the President highlighted the profound effect of braille and its essential role in empowering individuals with visual impairments. In this regard, he emphasized that braille removes obstacles that restrict their involvement in society, acting as a key tool that allows them to become active and independent contributors to all aspects of societal development.

The President also commended the remarkable efforts of individuals in Maldivian society who tirelessly raise awareness and advocate for the rights of visually impaired citizens.

Citing that it is a fundamental responsibility of every nation to ensure that appropriate services and resources are designed and made accessible for people with visual, the President affirmed the government’s commitment to continue implementing policies that address the needs of this community.

He concluded the message by reaffirming the government’s commitment to empowering people with disabilities, fostering their inclusion in society, and supporting them in living with dignity.

World Braille Day, marked annually on January 4th since 2019, is observed to raise awareness of the importance of Braille as a means of communication in fully realizing the human rights of visually impaired people.
