The Maldives Meteorological Centre (MET Office) has forecast rough seas during this weekend, and cautioned the public.

Schools have gone into the mid-term break of the second term on Thursday which is expected to drive up the number of trips both by air and sea, while many local migrants in the capital area are expected to make trips during the weekend.

MET however, had issued a white alert for majority of the country and forecast wind speeds between 19 to 24 miles per hour, with rough seas from Baa to Addu atolls.

The weather authority forecasts heavy rain, thunder, and gusts for several areas with winds expected normally between 17 and 27 miles per hour from west-southwest. With seas expected to get even rougher with wind, MET also forecasts waves to reach between seven to nine feet with possible swells to some islands during high tides.

The authority has advised to practice extreme caution while traveling.
