Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has prepared to issue the 127 commercial units from the 32 towers it is developing in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

At the press briefing held on Thursday to share details, an official of FDC said the towers were dispersed into six zones and added that the 580 to 6,200 square feet units will be featured on the ground and first floors of each tower.

According to the FDC official, the units are being developed to ensure basic services are readied before residents move into their units. The commercial units will house retail outlets, clinics, community spaces, restaurants, and offices.

The commercial spaces will be issued in a manner ensuring the tower residents can access retail outlets within two minutes and health facilities under 10 minutes. FDC added new or startup ventures will be given priority in awarding these units.

Currently servicing works are proceeding across the towers while the commercial units would be sold at standard market rates.

The 32 towers, encompassing a total of 4,000 housing units, is part of the last government’s Gedhoruveriya Scheme – a social housing initiative launched with the aim of addressing housing difficulties faced in Greater Male’ area.

While the former government announced recipients subject to receive these units, the awarding was put on hold after Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) stepped citing discrepancies in the awarding standards.

The list is still under review under the current administration’s Housing Ministry, and though it had, on multiple times, informed of potential dates when the reviewed and finalized list would be announced, it has never reached to that point. Right now, the release of this list has been delayed indefinitely.

Earlier, FDC announced all finishing works across the towers will conclude before the year ends.
