Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into the sexual abuse of a minor who was out swimming in Hulhumale’.
In a message to the media on Tuesday, Police said the case was reported to the authority on Friday, without providing any further details.
The Police message came after a person published a social media post, claiming a release of an individual suspected of sexually abusing children at Hulhumale’ beach who had been handed over to the Police.
As the post, the individual sexually harassed minors, tried to lead them to secluded areas and tried to touch their bodies without their consent.
While cases involving sexual abuse of children remain prevalent in the Maldives, there is a registry published online disclosing the identities of the child sex offenders.
