President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Sunday night, announced his administration’s decision to award an allowance to the families of the martyrs in the November 3rd coup and develop a 50-unit housing complex for them.

He made the announcement while speaking at the official reception held on Sunday night to commemorate Victory Day.

In his speech, the President underscored that eight soldiers and 11 citizens were martyred in the November 3rd coup. He further noted 29 soldiers and two police officers have died in various accidents since 1979.

The President stressed that recent administrations have failed to honor them.

“Some funds were previously awarded as aid to the families of the martyrs. However, this has been stopped in recent times. I believe this to be a great injustice,” he said.

Henceforth, he said an allowance will be awarded to the families of the martyrs starting from this year under a specific policy to be gazetted and in a sustainable manner. They include five individuals who received the November 3 Medal of Exceptional Bravery and 10 individuals who received the Medal for Bravery.

“In addition to this, a 50-unit housing complex will be developed under the name ‘Shaheedhunge Hiyaa’ in housing program specifically for the families of martyrs which will be completed and handed over to the families within the upcoming years of this term,” he added.
