Veteran journos receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Former 'Aafathis' news editor Ahmed Zahir (R) and Dhauru news editor Moosa Latheef received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism.

Former ‘Aafathis’ editor Ahmed Zahir (‘Fairy’ Zahir) and current editor of ‘Dhauru’ news Moosa Latheef have received the Lifetime Achievement Award in journalism on Wednesday evening.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef conferred the awards to both these veteran journalists during a ceremony held at the Umar Zahir Office Building on Wednesday evening, to celebrate the contributions made by local reporters.

Ahmed Zahir began his career in journalism in 1990. To his credit, Zahir had been responsible with corresponding crucial news and current affairs updates to the public through ‘Aafathis’; which was a popular news outlet at the time. Besides this, Zahir also worked at Haveeru as well.

The lifetime achievement award winner has been previously recipient to a National Award in Journalism as well.

The other winner of the evening, Moosa Latheef, made began his career at ‘Haveeru’ in 1987 at the age of 16. His articles were being published on Haveeru occasionally back then, and right after completing his education, he joined journalism professionally.

Moosa received the National Award in 2001, back when he was just 30 years of age. Following this, his scope and involvement in Maldives journalism expanded with an Acting Editor role at ‘Haveeru’ in 2004.
