Man accused of beating and robbing mother remanded for 10 days

A man arrested from the Maldivian capital on Tuesday on suspicion of beating and robbing his 57-year-old mother in her home in Hulhumale’ Phase II has been remanded in custody of the police.

Mohamed Ismail, 28, H. Ehada. K. Male’, was arrested by the police after received a report at around 06:17 pm on Monday about the sound of a woman crying coming from an apartment in the H13 Tower in the Hiyaa project.

The police went and knocked, and a woman opened the door. She told the police that her son had beaten her, threatened to kill her with a knife, and snatched her phone before fleeing.

A police spokesperson said Ismail was presented before the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court for his remand hearing on Wednesday. The court remanded him in custody of the police for 10 days.

Ismail’s mother sustained injuries in the incident. She was treated for her injuries and discharged from a hospital on Monday night.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
