President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday said that his official visit to India has been a successful endeavor.
He said this while speaking during an event where he met with Maldivian citizens residing in Bangalore, India.
At the event, President Muizzu affirmed Maldives has achieved the objectives of this trip, including fostering stronger economic and social ties between the peoples of both countries.
“We have done crucial work on behalf of the Maldivian citizens to ensure preservation of their rights and enrich their lives,” President Muizzu said at the event.
Muizzu said he will always prioritize a ‘Maldivians first’ policy, and added that one his administration’s primary objective will be to forge bonds with global allies that prioritize enriching the lives of the Maldivian citizens.
He also emphasized the long-standing relationship between the Maldives and India, and added that India has always been the first to extend its hand to assist in times of crisis. He said maintaining friendship with India is crucial in preserving the rights of the Maldivian citizens.
President Muizzu also stressed that the Maldivian sovereignty, independence and identity are the most important aspects for its people, and assured his administration’s policies will not endanger any of these.
The Maldives president is currently in India on an official visit on the invitation of Indian President Droupadi Murmu.
During his trip, President Muizzu visited Mumbai on Tuesday to attend the business forum where he invited Indian investors to explore opportunities in digital transformation in the Maldives. He had also attended a special event with several Bollywood celebrities to promote the Maldives tourism brand, where he invited the actors to visit the island nation for their future movie ventures.
Besides meeting with Murmu, President Muizzu also met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior Indian officials as well. He also attended the India-Maldives Business Forum in New Delhi.
