The roads in the area around the Vinares towers in Hulhumale’ Phase II are unlit because the electrical cables laid to light the area have gone “missing”, says Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, the managing director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

Fazul made the remarks after North Hulhumale’ MP Hussain Shareef expressed displeasure over the roads of Hulhumale’ Phase II being unlit and unsafe.

He shared a screenshot of a message sent to him by a constituent on Facebook. The constituent asked Shareef to clarify what the HDC is doing to address the issue.

Shareef questioned what the “top-heavy” HDC has been doing to provide public services.

In a post on X on Wednesday afternoon, Fazul said that the electrical network needed for the street lights in the area was complete by the end of August, but the cables had gone “missing”.

He said that the HDC had placed an order to procure the equipment needed to light the roads in the area.

Fazul did not specify how the electrical cables went missing.
