Immigration intercepts 45 illegal entry attempts

Immigration has intercepted 45 attempts to illegally enter the Maldives via its air borders so far this year.

According to information released by Immigration on Wednesday, the 45 air border interceptions between January 1 and September 30 includes attempts to enter the Maldives using counterfeit IDs, passports and resident visas.

Immigration made five interceptions in Q4 2023 (November 17-December 31). This includes:

  • Counterfeit resident card: One case
  • Counterfeit passport: Five cases

In Q1 2024 (January-March), Immigration made eight interceptions. This includes:

  • Counterfeit ID: One case
  • Counterfeit passport: Six cases
  • Imposter: One case

In Q2 2024 (April-June), Immigration made 17 interceptions. This includes:

  • Forged passport: One case
  • Counterfeit passport: 16 cases

In Q3 2024 (July-September), Immigration made 20 interceptions. This includes:

  • Counterfeit passport: Five cases
  • Counterfeit ID: One case
  • Counterfeit bio page: Three cases
  • Imposter: Four cases
  • Counterfeit visa: Two cases
  • Counterfeit stamp: Four cases

The statistics show an increase in interceptions throughout the year.
